Fram or Motocraft?

I recently purchased a 2003 F250 with the 6.0 and it's time to do some maintenance. I went to Walmart to price oil filters and noticed the Fram was $5 and the Motocraft was almost $20. When I looked at them side by side, I really couldn't see any difference in quality...

Should I use one over the other, or does it make a difference? Also, which oil is best for the diesel?

My truck has under 84k miles.

Thanks!

Motorcraft; Hands down. I usually try to stick to OEM filters whenever possible, but on a 6.0 it should be a requirement.

Just because they look the same on the outside does not mean they are the same on the inside. Spend the extra money on the MC filter.

Are you sure the Fram one was $5?? The Motorcraft filter for my 7.3 is cheaper then the Fram one. Either way, go Motorcraft. Don't skimp on oil filters when it comes to the 6.0 or 7.3, your injectors will thank you.

FRAM SUCKS! Motorcraft Rules

There I have handled this thread no need to post 40 more times that fram filters suck and motorcraft filters solve world hunger, lower emissions, increase torque, lower fuel consumption, and can solve a Rubics cube in 32.4 seconds. Did I miss anything?

Awesome, thanks for the info!

How about oil? Is there any recommendations? Someone told me which brand is best for diesels, but I can't remember which...

Search the 6.0 forum for oil filters. You'll find that the Fram and MC oil filters are made by Racor. No need to wast extra money on a box.

Just because they are made by the same company doesn't mean they use the same parts or quality on both of them. There is a website where they cut open a lot of filters and tested them and the Fram was rated as one of the worst.

From the website

"Years ago Fram was a quality filter manufacturer. Now their standard filter (the radioactive-orange cans) is one of the worst out there. It features cardboard end caps for the filter element that are glued in place. The rubber anti-drainback valve seals against the cardboard and frequently leaks, causing dirty oil to drain back into the pan. The bypass valves are plastic and are sometimes not molded correctly, which allows them to leak all the time. The stamped-metal threaded end is weakly constructed and it has smaller and fewer oil inlet holes, which may restrict flow.

Here is the website

Notice the fram has a cardboard end cap, the Motorcraft a stamped steel. The fram has a plastic bypass valve and the Motrocraft is steel.

The 6.0L PSD does not use the can type filter.

DeWalt Power Tools are made by the same company who makes Black and Decker Power Tools...Are you saying there's no difference in the two?

True. But I still wouldn't buy something from a company that makes any of their products that poorly.
