Ok, I have had it with my stock nothin goin for it at all headliner. I was wondering what yall have done to yalls to make it look better?
I have been trying to find a fabric with the Ford emblem printed all over it but havent found anything yet. Any help welcome.
Hey Blake. The guy building a GT500 truck used 1/8-inch pressboard - the kind used for shower surrounds. Anyhow, he enlarged the Cobra logo (the snake shaped like an "S"), drew it, filled it in with a Sharpie, and installed it. I figure it's worth a try to do something like that... --OR--
Get the pressboard and some thin foam.. like 3/16-inch or less thick, cut out your design from the foam (flames, art deco, wings, rebel flag, etc.), and then use super adhesive contact cement and mount those pieces to the pressboard. I think the rough backside will provide better adhesion. Heck, if you're careful enough you might be able to have a positive and negative images of your design. To continue...
Next, spray the exposed pressboard and foam with the contact cement and then apply auto-grade vinyl, rolling and tucking the vinyl into the reliefs created by your foam design. You should end up with a headliner that looks embossed.
The design needs to have enough "open area" such that the vinyl can stick to the pressboard and the design doesn't get blurry.
I went to a local upholstry shop and had my seat recovered, a new headliner and kick panels made all for 350 bucks.....
Before...
After....
That turned out very nice. Reminded me that I need to have my seat recovered.
I got to wondering today if I ordered a 3'x5' Ford Flag if I could glue it to my headliner? I did something similar with a rebel flag in my Bronco.
But I don't know if after I get it all centered up and everything if part of the Blue Oval will be tucked behind and cut off?
I was in the fabrick store with my wife the other day, and they actually have a material out there which was called "Headliner"...it's the same material as most stock vehicles today. I'm going down that way today, I'll see if I can find a manufacturer name or find out where they purchase their stock from. It would look pretty nice.
Best,
Jason
Btw...thanks for the help on my 302 auto choke questions!
Looks pretty cool sir!...I'm about to undertake the Headliner challenge on my 66 with the plans I got from Robert (aka gangstakr)...I'm preparing mentally for the challenge...think I'm going to do it out of aircraft aluminum.
Best,
Jason
Thanks. Its was a pain gettin the wrinkles out of that thing while glueing. I used a foam paint roller to roll it out on the headliner and that worked out pretty good.
