Replace Leaf Springs?

I don't every off road, just love my truck to drive and haul when necessary. I have to replace the rear brackets on my leaf springs. When do you ever replace this whole leaf spring? (hate this hell job).

If you ever notice broken springs or spring sag. IMO, you'll be in there, they're 20+ years old, now is as good of a time as any to replace them. Especially considering you can get OEM replacements for around $100.

The only time I would ever replace one would be when it is broken or really sagging. If you do replace one you should replace the other with it. Also don,t even try the replace a leafe thing, every time we do it breaks the next one above or below it.

I was talking about the entire piece as a whole. Didn't know you could replace an paticular piece.

while you have the leaf out you may consider changing the bushings in the pack as well. Keep in mind this is no easy chore either but this will help with the ride as well IMO.

Yeah I've done it before. Sucks worse than pulling a motor (At least last time was). Pounding those damn things for hours. I have the bed off, so I am thinking about the things I need to replace now. I'm dropping it off to get sand blasted tonight if weather calls for it. Then POR15 the frame. Probably pick up some new lines, shocks, brakes too.

grab your torch and air chisel!

I like to use two air chisels, one preloaded with a flat punch and one with a cutter.

Heat those bushings till they are oozing and them pop them out with the flat punch air chisel, while a helper (my wife) holds the torch. Then heat the metal sleeve and hit the metal sleeve with the second air chisel. After I figured this out it was a much easier process for the other leaf packs. You could do this by your self and with one air chisel, but starting the torch and chaning HOT chisel tips isnt any fun!
