Quick question, I'm having trouble finding out for sure, but would an Autolite APP103 be the correct plug for a 2004 4.0L Ranger? Everything I keep finding is saying AP5143 or Motorcraft SP498 which is pretty much the same thing just different names. That isn't right because it isn't a double platinum plug. I know cyls 1 2 3 are double platinums and 4 5 6 are single factory.
For spark plug replacement, see your dealer or a qualified service
technician. Refer to the Scheduled Maintenance Guide for the
appropriate intervals for changing the spark plugs.
Replace the spark plugs with ones that meet Ford material and
design specifications for your vehicle, such as Motorcraft or
equivalent replacement parts. The customer warranty may be
void for any damage to the engine if such spark plugs are not
used
Use the APP103, those are the correct replacement. The original plugs used two different kinds of single platinums that are not readily available to the public. Ford did this because they can order millions of these plugs and save money without compromising the durability. To the consumer, there is no advantage to taking the same approach.
You do not need to worry about your warranty. Its not going to be voided unless the wrong plugs cause damage, which isn't going to happen unless you cross wires or something.
Not only that I will not take a vehicle to anyone else , especially a dealer to have work done on it. If I can't work on it myself I don't need the vehicle. I have been turning wrenches on cars and trucks for over 12 years now and and part of that time has been proffessionally. When somebody says take it to the dealer it strikes a nerve because a dealer technician or auto repair shop can't do anything I can't.
Well that statement that I posted above is from the Ford Owner's Manual for the vehicle.
So maybe you should read the directions before you buy a vehicle, and it's sezs that the warrenty won't cover damage caused by using the wrong spark plug.
If you ask Ford Service what spark plugs to use, they'll tell you for nuthin'
Looks like KhanTyranitar did too. Heck, he wasn't even rude about it AND gave extra information. What is this world coming to where someone can be kind and informative...
