428 stroker

OK the time is getting closer ,I have pulled down my tbird mill ,and it is a 428 .I am going to do the stroker build and wondering ..what the hell will I keep for parts ,will the stock push rods and rockers work?? or will the limit of the valve springs force new ?and are the roller rockers nessary??I would like to know if the stock parts will work ..or just how far do you need to go with the top end..max RPM is going to be 5500 .not a screemer..with a good cam kit what is safe??I understand things will bend when pushed ,,do you NEED rocker supports ? or just a heavy duty rocker shaft?or .. should I listen to the builder and not question him??it's taken 2 years to get this far money is limited but I figger it's my last chance to build this thing

im a real firm believer in spending more money on heads than a stroker especially with 3.98 stroke aready. The pushrods wll depend on spring pressure and the rockers will depend on camshaft lift, and adjustable factory rockers would be great for preload with an hydraulic cam and they use different pushrods than non adjustable rockers. I wouldn't exced 300 lbs open pressure with stock pushrods or .500 lift with stock style valve springs.

I ran a .525" lift cam with stock non-adjustable rockers on my 428CJ back in the day. Turned 6500 to 7000 with it and never once had a valve train issue on that street and strip car. Whatever cam you get, get the cam kit. That way you will have the right valve train parts and it will eliminate any issues. I learned this the hard way on a 390GT cam swap for a street car. I think I had no issues with the CJ because the valve spring were a bunch better than the 390GT spring. The 390 would turn 5000 only (these are the same springs your 428 has) while the CJ would turn 6000 from the factory. I know this because my street 428CJ Cobra with C-6 shift, in drive at 6000 all by itself.
