I've been looking for a different motor for my '58 F100 and I came across a Y block that was supposedly out of a school bus. I looked it over the best I could, it was sitting out in an old shed. It has the 4 barrel intake with the wide holley pattern and its also got the ramshorn exhaust manifolds. One thing that looks different from other y blocks is the front of the motor, seems like the water pump sits up taller. Also, it had power steering and the reservior was wrapped with the hydraulic line, sorta like a cooler I guess. Anyway, any ideas as to what this motor could be? I pulled the valve covers and couldn't find any casting codes. Thanks for any and all help.
Dont have any pics to add at this time, might at a later date though. I could have the guy look at the exhaust bolt pattern for me if thats a way to narrow it down. Any other things for him to look for?
If it's the lincoln Y, I believe the casting code is on the rear of the engine a few inches above the crank, would be hidden by the flywheel. EAL=279, EAD=317, ECS= 302??, ECT=332??, ECU=368, although I have seen some ECU casting numbers on early 60's 332 truck engines. Don't hold these as gospel, just stuff I've read on the web.
