So I got this carb for 30$ including a carb kit...The PO said it was an old Ford "flat top," 4V carb...It looked like it will mount to my 312 intake...I just need help identifying it so I can reference schematics and find out the CFM...any help would be appreciated...there are no identifying stamps or markings I can find...
You should check with 46Yblock,but that looks like the Autolite 4100 I just stuck on my truck last night . I'm getting ready to try and get my truck hooked up and running this a.m. . They are supposed to be a very good carb - that's why I bought one - and if it is a 4100 , 46Yblock can give you the name of a man who specializes in rebuilding those Autolite carbs . He is in Oregon, sells on Ebay,or direct, and has excellent ratings on Ebay. I bought a Pony Carb refurbished 4100.Not sure if will be worth the high price-tag that Pony carbs go for,but wanted to get it quick, and it was the same price as a new Holley 390 cfm,and ,I got it for about 250.00 less than it would have cost direct from Pony.Got it off Ebay, sort of a "fire sale". Pony Carbs will also rebuild your carb,if you've got the "do-re-mi".I'd probably go with that guy in your neck of the world,he just didn't have the smaller 1.08 venturi one that is recommended for our Y's,so I "pony'd -up" and got the other one.
Well, i did some searching, and on Timmy's yblock page i identified the carb as a autolite 4100, it has 1.08 venturies which makes it a 480 cfm unit...This was timmy's shpeel...: Autolite 4100
A Ford design that looks similar to a Holley, this carb is a very underrated choice. Coming in sizes useful for a Y, the 4100 uses Holley jets and power valves. The annular discharge booster venturis are very efficient. A great choice for an all-Ford ride, the 4100 is simple and reliable. 3 sizes were made: a 480 cfm unit uses 1.08”venturis, a 600 cfm unit uses 1.12” venturies, and a rare, 1958-only version came with 1.19” venturis for 650 to 670 cfm. Check the carb base for venturi size numbers.
On the side of the foot of the carb may be some stamped numbers. If there they sometimes cant be seen until the dirt is cleaned off. 1.08 is what you would want in terms of venturis. The automatic choke can be converted to manual using a universal kit at the local parts house if desired.
Find another like that and you can sell it to me for a good profit!
From the looks of it I'm betting it is a 65 or 66 number on the side. Excellent carbs, just make sure the secondary diapram is good and the plastic pin on the primary throttle lever isn't broken.
