Okay I am starting the mocking up of my 49 and think a PO has welded the hood latch on my truck for a quick fix. My question is does anyone have info on how the hood latch is suppose to be on the hood? I still need to learn how to post pics.
The part I think your referring to is the part that latches onto the mushroom shaped rod that comes up from the panel in front of the radiator, it should pivot.
The only adjustment I know of it raising and lowering the pin the comes up from the panel infront of the radiator. If the part in the hood isn't catching then it might be worn out and need repair.
lets take this one step further. My hood release mechanism hits on the inner portion of the grill, unless I engage the latch handle. It latches fine, but has rubbed off the paint, when making contact. I've been thinking of putting some sort of "softener" there to prevent this.
I have all bumpers installed on the hood, and fitment is pretty good.
It makes sense that the latch lever would make contact at the rear of the grill assembly, but thought there may be a grommet or something that would prevent paint damage.
I also have all the bumpers on my hood and it has taken some paint off. I don't know if there is a way to totally prevent the paint from chipping some. These are very poor quality vehicles to start with, body panel fit didn't seem to be a major concern.
Bob;
I'm going to look at some sort of grommet/covering/pad that will prevent paint damage where latch meets front end. Possibly rubber pad/heat shrink fastened to latch itself ?
