Wouldn't the extended crew cab be the largest in overall stock pickup dimensions? I'm not sure what it's called but seen it called a Mega cab. Dodge has one they call a mega cab now. Supposed to be a whole lotta room in the back seat area.
A guy down the street has a Pete 379 with an extended frame that he turned into a motor home. Very professional job. The coach just takes the original sleeper and continues on to what looks like about 40 ft. Has 3 slides, power steps, satellite tracking, all the goodies. I need to grab some pics of his set up. Looks like he might be making another one also. I see he has another truck in the back of his lot!
Yeah, it's a tighter fit near the firewall, but there are very well known ways to work on the motor w/o issues back there. I have no issue wrenching on my 7.3L PSD. There's just a knack to it and all you have to do is ask in the '99 - '03 PSD forum.
The Dodge crew cab's back seat SUCKS - my wife owned an '04. It's nowhere near as roomy as my '00 Ford CC. Dodge built the Mega cab, but you can only buy it in a short bed combo, no long bed. I've been in a Mega cab and concluded it's comparable to my '00 CC and with an extra inch behind the seat. Overall, dimensionally, I was lead to believe that the Ford newer body style CCLB's are the biggest truck.

Theirs some companies out there making big money doing mega cab long bed conversions.

Oh, those 7.3 PSD ain't bad, actually they seem to be somewhat roomier than the IDIs in some areas (under the engine for instance). It's the 6.x with the redesigned cabs that are a royal mess - Ford's official procedure for doing certain engine work on those involves lifting the cab off the frame
Dayum. Now that would suck! Think after just one time of having to do that would be enough for me to want to sell it. Get one at least a little easier to work on. Sure a fix like that couldn't be quick.....or cheap.
Had a C class Motorhome similar to IDIDieselJohns. An E-350 Motorhome with the 6.9 IDI and C6. It was about as long (maybe longer) as my F350...but it wasn't a truck.

recomended procedure for pulling the 7.3 from an 89 van includes unbolting the front body mounts and lifting the body a few inches, thats a big part of why i didnt keep the van even getting the air filter off to change it was a pita

Thats because their version of a crew is still only an extended cab with rear opening doors.

The MegaCab is much bigger in the rear seat area than any crew cab. Both in front and behind the seat.
I've heard that the Mega long bed conversions run about $9K. Judging by how many I've seen, they are pretty popular.

That's the nature of any van tho, they make rear of the engine very easy to reach but swapping the whole engine (or even the IP and lines in case of the IDI) is a bear. It can be worse tho, think a big motorhome like a Winnebago or an Airstream with a front engine

old dodge van I learnt ta drive in was easy to work on I could adjust the carb and timing from the drivers seat amd reach all the plugs pretty easy from inside the doghouse, it was a nasty suprise to me how hard everything was to reach in the ford of course the dadge was a gasser
