4.6 won't start

My 99 Grand Marquis will not start. Turns over fine and I can smell unburnt fuel out the exhaust. There is no check engine light on. Any do it yourself ideas or is this a megabuck fix?

Check the crank position sensor for good connection, and that it's not damaged. No CKP signal, no spark.
