I HAVE A 95 4.9 INLINE SIX AND I HAVE A PROBLEM. WHEN EVER I TAKE OFF THE TRUCK STARTS TO STUDDER AND DOES NOT WANT TO ADVANCE, THE MOTOR STRUGGLES TO PICK UP SPEED. I WANT TO FIX MY TRUCK ASAP. THANKS GUYS.
From the vague description, it sounds like it could be anything from plugs/wires to a bad injector, vacuum leak, or even internal valve issues.
Help us help you. When was the last time the truck got a full tune up? Is this issue something that started suddenly, or did it get worse over time?
The truck is a 5 speed. I just got the truck like about 4 months ago and I have changed the spark plugs and the wires and the cap and rotor. I just put in a new clutch and a oil change and fuel filter. The truck has been doing that since I got it. A couple people told me that it could be that one of the cats might be bad or the fuel regulator is bad. I really like my truck and would like it to be running good but this is the only thing holding it back from running good.hopefully this info helps alittle more.
I checked all the hoses and there all new. Do you think it could be a fuel problem or something like that? I'm new to the hole truck thing and inline 6 motors and I would like to know As much as I can about this motor since implanning of keeping my truck for a very long time. Is there any place were I can see how all the vaccum hoses are routed or were they plug into. Do you think it can be that a catalytic converter is bad?
it could also be the egr valve...or your ignition coil.. both easy fixes and should be done anyways... it takes about 20 min total..and you will get better fuel economy and throttle response..just my 2cents worth
A bad cat will typically cause a major loss in power, but not a rough running condition.
One simple thing you can check is the plug wire order on the dist cap. If you simply replaced each wire one at a time, it could be wired wrong. Firing order on the I6 is 153624, and the cyl's are numbered 1-6 front to rear.
I'm not sure where to find a diagram or picture showing where all the vac hoses should be connected. I'm sure someone with a similar model truck could supply a few pictures, if needed.
Thanks guys. I will check the firing order when I get home. Thanks again. I will reply with other q's if I have some . I'm new to the truck thing but I'm a die hard ford guy and proud owner of 4 mustangs, I'm looking to go with the 95 lightning look. I have 03 lightning wheels on it and 95 L seats. I will post a picture soon as soon as I get alittle more familiar with this forum. thanks for the help.
The truck has like 240k miles on it. I live in california and I need to have the cats on there. I want to have the truck running good with no worries of getting pulled over for no cats. This truck is going to be my daily driver because my other mustangs are all running without cats because there all fixed up.
well possibly that cat is really gumed up too.. check the firing order.. i would replace the cat if you can afford it and also try the egr valve and ignition coil.. you will be in good shape then..
