well at least MY exploder runs good! 225,000 miles, and all original ignition. (and by all original i mean factory plugs and wires too... dont blame me, i tried to tell my parents that it needed new ones, but "is it causin a problem?" "not YET," "then why does it need new ones?" "cause youre supposed to change them every 50 to 60k miles." "well it seems to be runnin fine, well get new ones if it has problems." "" yeah, so instead of $40 bucks for new wires and plugs, we will pay $3k for all new ignition. sure, THAT makes sense... )
my sentiments exactly. i tried tellin em that. i was like, ok, wires and plugs, 40 to 50 dollars. no-fire, and the spark that didnt jump the sparkplug, the spark has to go somewhere and thus goes back through and fries the whole system, 2000 to 3000 dollars... gee, i wonder which one we should do? not to mention it would run better, start easier, and get better economy...
i used to give my mom a list of things that i wanted the mechanic to either look at or change/update/replace when she took it in while i was at school. and without fail, every time, less than half the list was gone over, and things that shouldve been done in my opinion, were ignored. bout the only time they werent, is when i diagnosed a specific problem. like when a u joint went bad in the front axle.
I don't understand parents in situations like that - because my dad was the same way with my first car...felt like I knew more than he did for some reason that way.
my little brother doesnt believe in getting maintenance done to his hyundai. the last time he had th eoil changed was 2 yrs ago and that was to get me to be quiet about it.
lol. when it comes to cars in general, especially MY vehicles, i DO know more. and my mom and step dad both know it. but they always assumed i was just tryin to spend money on stuff that didnt need spent. quite frankly, id rather spend a few hundred dollars to keep the vehicle i grew up in runnin good, than buy a "stranger" vehicle for a couple of grand because i let the one i have go to pot.
my consolation is that my dad actually listens to me. if i say we need somethin for one of the vehicles (maintenance, not performance), the only reason he says no is because we simply cant afford it at the moment. but it gets put on priority.
Bill thats what im thinking. his car will leave him stranded and he will have to spend big bucks to get it fixed. it hasnt even had a tune up yet and im sure it is over due for that as well as a tranny service.
wow... that reminds me of my friend from school. he is two years older than me, and had this old 79 chebby. he put 80,000 miles on that truck and changed the oil three times. he finally killed it when he didnt get the rad cap all the way back on and was racin me to school. he pretty much toasted that motor... i think it still runs, but just.
