I put front brakes on my 2003 F250 Saturday, Changed the fuel filter, and greased the front end. Bottom ball joints have grease zerks, uppers do not.
Washed down my engine with simple green. Hosed down with standard water hose.
Now my steering column has a severe rubbing noise. I have had a slight noise at full left and right for some time, but nothing this loud and severe. It comes in at about half turn of the wheel in either direction.
Any help would be appreciated. I have been trying the search function without much succsess. This noise sounds like plastic on plastic. Jim
Thanks TDpower: I had that thought also. It feels fine. Need to get the DW out there to turn the wheel while I feel of the bearing shroud or whatever you call it.
I appreciate your responding Thanks Jim
Did you take care not too get water on the power steering reservoir when washing the engine? The cap has a hole in the top and water can get in there and contaminate the fluid and make all sorts of wierd noises.
Do you have access to Motor All Data, I am getting ready to rebuild my column and had to print out the step by step. Its in a word document, if you think it will help you I can email you as an attachment. There's a lot going on in the column, bushings, bearings, sleeves, etc. etc.
That would be really great. Jimmiew37@gmail.com I was looking at it a while ago, and it may be in the area of the clock spring. Getting dark and had to quit. Thanks 60Ratrod. I appreciate it. Jim

O.K. Jim it's sent. Hope it helps you out some. Sorry, I don't know what could be causing the noise.
n20: No I did not and it sounds like it is the steering box. My son came over today and he thinks that is where it is coming from. With engine off, it seems to go away.
Do you think a flush might help? Jim
Well: Thanks to everyone who posted, and some that had posted before. I think I have my
noise fixed. I flushed the steering system today and put in some synthetic ATF. The squeaking noise has stopped. There may still be a little at lock left or right. I still have a small amount of noise like the system still has some air. It seems to get better as I drive it more. Thanks guys. Jim

Sorry didn't see this til now, but yes i think you may have gotten water in it and would've suggested a flush but looks like you got it taken care of!! The PS systems on these trucks are really picky on having CLEAN ATF in the system. Or strange things can happen

I have never been a believer in additives, but my son said to try Lucas PS leak sealer.
It claims to stop squeals and leaks. Dang!!!! that stuff worked. All squeaking noise gone. I believe it's cured. Thanks again Guy's
