Repro Radios - 48-52 Fords

I haven't spent much time on here in a while so if everyone already knows about this, please pardon the duplicity. My father came across this and forwarded it to me. Thought some here might find it of value.

Looks perfect, I just don't have the bucks for that! I saw one on eBay (modern repro) that had a green LED face, it just didn't look right at all.

I'd like to get an update from HD74(marty). Last time I talked to him he was just installing one in his truck. Said the materials quality was sub-par, especially for the money they're asking. I don't know how well it works, though. Kind of a bummer. :-( Sure, it's a bunch of money, but it is a great alternative to an inconvenient installation, cutting the dash or worse, not having tunes. ;-)

Tell me about it! My PO did this hack job so he could install a late-50's Chrysler POS that didn't work anyway! I'm torn about what to do with it; I have a replacement dash section, but until I saw the unit above, nothing that looked good to put in the stock hole.

Ross, you're not the only one with that problem.

This is the cab from "blacksnake's" old truck and Julie and I split. Same problem there with the radio.

Not bad, but for $600, I'd prefer it to be 100% correct. The ***** are all wrong. The pushbutton ***** should be an off white/cream color and the dial/volume ***** are not correct either. All are available in repro.

I'd rather have the local vintage radio repair guy restore my radio for half the price of this one.

This is what I started out with. It looks like the PO used the combination of a smoke wrench and a churckey to open this up

This is my current radio "delete" plate

Vintage look

I definitely want a sound system, with the vintage look but at that price I may stick to humming tunes until I find a cost effective option. It seems a lot of suppliers connected to this addiction are using "rare" metals and alchemy to justify their charging mega-doll hairs for their products. I realize they are "custom" but jeez.

If I have to take out a second mortage, I want satellite, and Ipod connectivity; thought of using false front; or just locating radio behind seat, with remote function. I thought I saw another supplier that offered this. For now I crank my satellite receiver in the garage, and make those varoom sounds while sitting on a plastic pail. It is cheap on gas; in fact at the rate I'm going; with all the money I save, not driving, I can afford the radio.

Later

Yeah my PO cut my dash for a radio too....and didn't do a good job at all. I'm thinking of using that same hole to use a stereo I saved from my first vehicle...

My truck is a 53 and has no radio, but I thought they were circular radios cut out of the dash
