Wheel House ?'s

I got to wondering the other day how much of a difference it would make if I removed the wheel houses from the beds on all of my trucks? Reason being is with wheel house out of the way you can clean the inside of the bed panel and then spray it good with bedliner, and without the wheel house rocks/dirt/mud can't get caught between it and the bed panel. Seems like it would reduce the risk of rust atleast 90%.

So what do yall think about removing them?

If its a good idea how would I go about removing them? Thanks.

It is an excelent idea.
To remove them you need to get a spot weld driller. Drill out the 15-20 or so spot welds in the wheel well lit then drill out the 10 or so spot weld in the inner wheel well.
You will need to make some support straps to support the bed skin though. I would use some factory lower bed support braces cut down and modded

I took a hole saw and and drilled holes in them one time so I could get up in there with a garden hose and wash them out frequently. That worked pretty well.

I also thought about leaving the wheel houses in place but cutting off/out the part that attaches to the wheel well so it can be cleaned easy. Also maybe mud and debri won't be thrown everywhere under the bed with them still in place.

Good luck cutting them out without cutting thru the bed side

sure you could clean easier, but on the negative, more grime and water is gonna get up at the inside of the bed and wheel well to start with.

In that case I will just eliminate the wheel houses and spray bedliner on the whole underside of the bed, lol. I guess thats really the easiest way to go about it then make a few braces.

Not 100% sure what I am doing yet. I may have found another shortbed just down from my house, just depends on if guy will sell, its a complete truck set out in the weeds. If so that makes two extra shortbeds I have plus the one that is still on the truck now. I found a few more parts trucks. I may try to get them then dismantle and sell for extra funds for the project.

Dang you old fords, you know my weaknesses, just can't stop messin with em, lol.

I'm pretty sure for what I'm building my truck for, the rocks and mud that get slung up would eff up the sheetmetal without the wheelhouse in the way.

That looks very good. Should be great for my truck since it is two wheel drive and never sees any offroad time anyway. Plus the street tires I have on it don't have the ability to pick up many rocks.
