ITS MY SONS HONDA CIVIC,THE HONDA FORUMS ARE USELESS.I HAVE USED THIS SITE IN THE PAST FOR MY 99 RANGER,95 AEROSTAR,AND 85 F150.THE CIVIC JUST QUIT ON THE ROAD,NO SPUTTERING,NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT,IT JUST QUIT AND TURNS OVER BUT WILL NOT START.THE BATTERY IS GOOD,IT HAS GAS IN THE TANK,IT HAS FUEL PRESSURE AND SPARK TO THE PLUGS,ALSO HAS COMPRESSION.CAN ANYONE HELP, I COULD USE SOME FRESH INPUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I HAD TAKEN THE TOP TIMING COVER OFF,ROTATED THE CRANKSHAFT TO GET THE #1 PISTON TO THE TOP AND THE CAM SPROCKET HAS A MARK IN THE 12 OCLOCK POSITION,THEY ARE LINING UP SO I FIGURE THE TIMING MUST BE RIGHT?
Since it does sound like the timing belt DO NOT try to start it till you verify timing belt is intact. Some Honda engines are interference engines meaning there isn't clearance between valves and pistons if the belt breaks. The piston can smack the valves and require alot more repair/expense than a timing belt replacement.
If you need advice from someone who specializes in Hondas here is a link of which has an email address in the contact info. He may be able to point you in the right direction based on his experience:
FROM LOOKING AT THE BELT WITH THE TOP TIMING COVER OFF IT IS NOT BROKEN,AND THE BELT LOOKS TO BE IN GOOD SHAPE.
for future us you can go to this website and it will tell you if you have an interferance or non- interferance engine. a lot of hondas have interferance engines
one more thing. some of the hondas like some ranger have icm's. on some cars the icm's can fire but not in the proper order...........We really can't do much for you without the year, model etc.......
I CHECKED AND THIS MODEL IS NOT AN INTERFERENCE ENGINE ( 2000 HONDA CIVIC EX 4 CYL. 1.6)
I looked it up on the website i gave you and it said INTERFERENCE They also put it in RED lettering so you see it.. one of us is wrong, however that is not your issue know if you said you pulled the cover off and the belt was fine( i guess it could have always skipped a tooth but i doubt it). you said you have fuel pressure. I think i would pull the air duct of the TB and spray starter fluid into it just to check. if it does not start that way my guess is the ICM might be bad. you probably could take it to a store and have them check it. get the coil checked to while you are there
