Barney/Walker,
How was the seal of the exhaust manifolds to the heads? I was wondering if they showed any signs of leakage.

Big leaks. #8 was completely blown out. #5 seriously leaking. Highly recommend gaskets. Wife was just asking if anyone routinely checks torque on the exhaust manifolds? Her theory, if turbo boost is what we are after and exhaust leaks result in lack of boost..... why aren't we checking the manifolds on a regularly like we routinely do torques on injectors?

Very good idea to check manifold torque just like the injectors, but it won't guarantee a seal since the manifolds can slightly warp over time. Gaskets aren't needed and should only be used as a bandaid, re-surfacing the manifolds would be the preferred method given the option.

Where are the pics Barney

Been wondering about that myself since reading about Peter's (duckfan) manifolds leaking awhile back. I have noticed any leaks on mine, but will take a closer look now.
How many miles on those manifolds?

When replacing injectors, Always check for foreign objects in the cup (pieces of 0 ring) and make sure to suck the oil out of the cylinders as it will spill into them upon the removal of the old injectors.

Did you pull the last injector on each side first to reduce the amount of oil and fuel in the forward cylinders? I extracted the oil from the rear ones as they were draining with my homemade Superduty Sucker jar and then went over all of them afterwards.

What are you powering the Superduty Sucker jar with? Got any pictures of the contraption?

Wayne you're gonna love Rolands Superduty Sucker jar. He built it himself and powers it off the trucks vacuum pump. It works great, I saw it in action in CT back when we did Jim's (Megawatt) turbo + injectors.

I was kind of thinking that, Pete. I saw one on the internet, a guy made out of a mayo jar and an old ac vacuum pump.

No vacuum pump necessary. You already have one.
Here is the link Ford Truck Enthusiasts User Gallery to the prototype that I built and shows it in use for a HPOP oil change. I also built a larger version from a gallon pickle jar that has a length of 1/4'' copper tubing, bent on the end, to reach into the injector hole in the head, and suck out the oil on top of the piston. You need to disable the fuel pump while the key is on when using the truck's vacuum pump when doing this on an injector change to prevent pumping fuel into the rails with the injectors out.
