i know people have but if you plan on doing any towing its not worth it as an electric fan dont cool as well as a stock.if you do it make sure you put it on a relay and as a warning it might be hard on the alt. i have heard guys pulling the fans out of ford taurus's to use as the conversion.probably be cheaper than one at the parts store

they dont make high enough cfm rated aftermarket fans(if they do somewhere, you wouldn't even think about it due to cost anyway),so aftermarkets wont do the trick.
try two electric fans from cars with 3.8l.those will keep her cool.
it's been 80+ here and iv been hauling some mean loads (more than the average guy here will ever put on his stock f250 springs w/stock bed.) and i still haven't had my fan engage.
temps stays way over on the N.
i need to charge up my A/C and get that working,i bet that will turn her on.
if your not towing Joe,ditch it for a day and see if she keeps her cool without a fan.wouldn't surprise me any.
what do they claim? once past 35 mph,the fans worthless anyway.i think its 35.

If you are going to do a electric fan swap out, get the lincoln mark VIII or thunderbird fan. They pull through about 3000-4000 cfm and i believe you can center mount this one in the middle of the existing shroud with small mods. You wont beat the pull with this thing at the price. Check out this site for some pricing and info.... Electric Fans

id use the two fan idea. thats what id do anyways. have one on a relay, and the second on a toggle if the first just isnt gettin the job done. i know a guy who did that to his car (full racin motor in his street car) and said if the temps started goin up, hed flip that switch the temp drop was almost instant.

Well that's the reason for the Lincoln fan, it gets the job done even when pulling and if it isn't, it isn't the fan not doing the job, the rad is probably shot.

i prefer the security of a mechanical fan. just spend the 150 and get a new clutch.

the mechanical fan may be more fail-safe, but it also takes 20 HP. and im always up for a free 20 horses...

got a dyno to show that? I doubt a 20hp drop becauseof it. And the only real drop would be when it's kicked on, and that's not for long. It's not like the fan runs 100% engauged

it true that the clutched fans dont take as much, but its a proven fact that the fan will sap between 15 and 20 horses dependin on the app...

put a 20k lb trailer behind a gas engine... Then the same behind a diesel and see if there's any difference.
