Has he tried 5w40 synthetic? If not, there's just too many variations within our PSD's to pinpoint the cause. What worked for me has shown no change in others.
The OP is in the Republik of Kalifornia. Should be plenty warm for him and not need 5W40 synthetic.
I keep my truck inside a garage.. and it never gets below 55* and when i was using 15W40 oil, it romped after starting... (did this since the truck was new) ..I switched after 8 years, to Rotella syn 5w40 and I have never had a romp since..
Some truck don't romp on dino.A friend has an '02 that don't romp at all on dino
I have no idea if mine will romp on dino now and will probly never know
