Just updated from an idi to a psd and love it. Truck runs great but when it starts it romps a little (for about 5 seconds). It does it when it's hot or cold but does it worse when cold. Plugged the block heater in last night and started this morning and it still did it, but not as bad. truck does have an edge chip in it. I have tried starting it in neutral but still does it. Also, have tried pressing the accelerator at start up to raise rpm's but as soon as I let off it romps for a few seconds. I have read lots of threads on here about romping and loping just wondering where to start. Truck only has 51,000 original miles so maybe all the sitting over the years has caused this, not sure. Any help would be great. Also, oil changed 600 miles ago.
1995 4x4 ext cab PSD 51,000 miles e40d. Edge chip mod that's it.
If Cody is refering to what I think it is, seems like Tim was always saying this. The TRS, Transmission Range Sensor, can have something to do with the loping idle. Run TJBeggs and TRS through the advanced search feature and see what you pull up. I will try and run it through before I sign off for the night and see if I can pull something up for you.
I looked up some threads on the TRS and romping issues. Looks like it would only be the trs if the problem goes away when starting in neutral. However i believe he said it still does it when starting in neutral.
Mine does the same thing so I am curious about answering this question as well.
Make sure the ICP sensor is not leaking oil under the connector , & the connection itself is good ,& clean...Romps mean the PCM is confused . It may also have a 10k mod in the wiring that can cause this as well.. BTW, is this a cali model ?
Ok tried starting it this morning 30 degrees and no start just romps and dies. So im thinking it's a glow plug or gpr problem. Does anybody have any ideas? No it's not a cali truck. I even tried leaving the glow plugs on longer and still not start.
Oil level reads fine. I just got home from work and with the truck plugged in all day it lit right off but then romped for a few seconds. It does seem to help with it plugged in. Also, after the hard romps stop the truck does just slightly seem to romp/shake just a little at idle. . I will try to check the icp and hpop as soon as possible. Thank's for the help
