Could you? yes,.. but I would not. at least not if you had the multi grove valves and locks.
crower makes a complete engine kit for the 351m i found out today iam gooing to do a block up build i am putting in 77 f250 on loader axles with 58 aggie tires
woa, if you are doin g a complete build up, please at least turn it into a 400, you only need a 400 crank and pistons, also high compression pistons can be got from tim meyer, talk to him TMeyer, Inc. Precision Automotive Machining
the crank on a 351m and 400 are the same its the rods that are different they bolth have journal diameter of 3.000 main and 2.311 connecting rod diameter in inches the 351m has a stroke of 3.50 in and the 400 has a 4.00 in stroke the kit comes with 400 rods or 351m rods depending on what you order
Nope, wrong, the 351m and the 400 use the SAME rods, the difference is the crankshaft and pistons, the crank gives the stroke not the pistons, be carefull with this..
There is a lot of good information on the net about building a nice 400. Seek and you shall find. A good set of closed chamber heads will help get you to the compression you want fast. Look up MPG heads.
ive got a old service manual from a buddy of mines grandfather thats on 351m /400 that says the crank s in the 351m are the same even gives the same # for bolth cranks really weird i scan a copy of the page today at the shop for u to check out it says that the rods are the diffference not the crank the book was made in 1972 what ever the case is iam going to get tthe kit for a 400
The crankshafts are different in rod throw heights, and that changes the stroke length. The 351m pistons also use a different compression height. The only common thread in the two crankshafts is the journal diameters. The connecting rods are the same center to center length. If you are going to build a 400,you will need a 400 crank and pistons.
order my kit today with a 4340 chrome alloy crank for a 400 and pistons for a 400 along with everything else rods bearing etc and the cranks are different this book is junk it was printed by hp books how to rebuild your 351c 351m/400/429/460 they have alot more info way wrong the 351c never was made in michigan foundry according to this book they were is this rite iam not sure ? i went 40 over on the pistons hope i dont run into cooling issue still not sure about heads i woul really like to get 600 plus hp is this possible out of a 400
......i woul really like to get 600 plus hp is this possible out of a 400
Very possible. You have to get the compression and flow right and 600 is a good target.
check in with TMI (tim meyer inc) for more info on 400s that is where I got parts for mine. he may be able to help.
