Hi guys...been a while since I posted in this forum!! Got a question for all...My buddy has a 97 F350 wit the E4OD and every time he pulls his 6000lb trailer, it belches fluid out the front pump seal. Otherwise it stays dry. Does the E4OD have an overheat issue?
Thanks
Rich
Heat is the number one enemy of the E4OD or any other auto transmission. It is always a wise idea to have a transmission cooler added if the truck is not factory equipped with the external cooler. Your buddy's front seal is living on borrowed time. With the internals next on the list.
In the event the truck already has the extra cooler it needs to be checked because it is not working properly.
The E4OD's are indeed known for doing this.
They will force fluid out the front seal when it gets too hot.
Certainly install a cooler if there is not one already and that should clear up your issues.
Make sure you aren't pulling with the overdrive on either. This will always generate excessive heat.
A slipping torque converter also generates crazy amounts of heat.
