When and where was the Ford Shield used? Not the blue oval. Was it used on the 48-53 trucks?
Hmmn, never seen a badge like that on a '51-'52. There were two cab options, one had just the single trim spear shown above and the other had two more spears that came out of the first one, but nothing like that.
Also, that truck is missing the hood trim right at the front of the hood, it looks to me like someone took a '53-'56 hood and put it on a '51-'52. Is that a possibility?
Here's the 1951 deluxe trim option (note the very front of the hood). My understanding is that 1952 was the same except the middle of the three holes in the front of the hood was filled in.
That's the correct 1952 hood trim. There were slight difference between 51 and 52.
The front hood trim is missing because it's a fiberglass hood. F/G hoods only have the vent cutouts on the sides and not in the front.
I didn't know that about the FG hoods, that's a huge drawback as far as originality is concerned, i'm suprised they wouldn't correct that, too weak/brittle I suppose.
The dark blue truck in the picture that is sporting 52 side spears is also missing the letters "F-O-R-D" on the Upper Valance. 51s had FORD incorporated into the Nose Emblem and it was the only truck of the 48-50 "Bonus Built" or 51/52 "Economy Built" truck line without the letters on the upper valance.
The 52 OEM Hood was also minus the center hole in the nose used on the 51s. 48-50 hoods did not have the multiple side indents.
But back to the original question. On the trucks this Ford Shield was used starting in 1953:
And this one was used on cars starting in 1950. Here's a picture of the multi colored shield:
There's not one piece of fiberglass on the truck. It's 100 % steel. Like most 59 year old vehicles though it does have some parts from different years, hence the 52 emblems mounted on a 51. The front FORD piece has also been removed. It's kind of what us "Restorods" do.

Then did someone fill in the vents in front of the hood?
That also explains the missing "FORD" letters on the valance - it's a 51 with 52 spears. I like the 52 spears. And HB Bob is right - that's a beautiful truck!
