I was thinking about going with some kind of chip for my truck and I was really looking into DP tuner, but the SCT looks like a good idea because it just flashes the tunes without mating with the vehicle. I heard that you can do an SCT tuner with DP tunes, is this a good option or would it be better to just go with one or the other?
Also, what are the pros and cons of both. I don't want to have to drop $ on a new tranny.
Chips (regardless of brand) are nice due to there "change on the fly" functionality. Flashing requires the vehicle to be off and can take 3-5 minutes to change.
Jody used to have a relationship with one of the major off the shelf brands and I believe it was SCT. They have since ended that relationship, so legally he is not able to use their programmer. Many many of us here have DP tunes and are evry happy with them.

Humm, We have been resellers of SCT products since 2005. No plans to discontinue that.

You can have 3 DP tunes on the SCT controller, I did and that's how I started out. After a while I started realizing what I was experiencing was a bit different than others (mostly in the transmission area) and made a call to Jody. Found out that he can do a whole lot more with his F chip than he can with the SCT controller. He has a ton of parameters he can program with his chip, but is limited with the SCT. At least that's how it was explained to me. I can tell you that when he sent me the F5 chip it was night and day, felt like a new truck. So do your homework and talk to Jody or someone there at DP first.
Thanks. I think switching on the fly would be nice, I'm just worried about throwing codes and having the unit mated to the vehicle for life. But I guess with the DP, you guys really havn't had any problems.

We are talking a chip here that you can take off the PCM any time you want to. The only way to get something mated for life is if you get the PCM reflashed with a tune.

The only problem that I have is that my dually can spin the tires......ask Jim and Pete they were right behind me in CT this weekend when i smoked em up

Ok, good to know, thanks. I need to do my homework on this whole thing.
I actually did plan on doing that too, before anything...What do you think is the best option reliability and price wise?
also, how hard is installation?
Are you talking about the installations of the gages?
Very easy to install DP-TUNER chip. Look at this LINK. There is also a vid on this, I will look for it.
Or the DP, as Rick Mentioned.
Price wise and reliability?
There are opinions on who's is better then others, I have not sampled more then one ( other then a hypertech I had for a while). I also dont buy into the belief that one has caused damage more then anothers, we mod our trucks, you have to take responsibility for your own actions. While considering who and what you want done, think about your plans. Are you putting a chip in and your done? Are you putting a Chip in, and then maybe a turbo, then a trans, then injectors? If you are going that route, you may want to look into who has the easiest and cheapest up grades. There are so many things to look into.
Look at signatures, PM the owners and ask. Take it with a grain of salt though, opinions are like A------s, we all have them, and they tend to be bias.
