DP Tuner upshift issues (80E)

I see we have a DP tune downshift poll going, and instead of hijacking that thread I wanted to start one on something that has bothered me about his upshifts. In the 80E tune the transmission has always locked up the TC in 3rd gear and shifted into OD at the same time. It feels like 3rd gear hangs up too long when it should be locking the TC, but then bam- both happen at the same time. It's a huge drop in rpms when it does this.
If I go back to the stock tune or in the tow tunes I get what I consider proper shifting. There is a definate feel of the 1-2, 2-3, 3rd TC lockup, and then the 3-4 shift. For this to occur in the 80E tune I have to barely accelerate and go slow.
I hate the way 3rd gear just hangs up to high rpm, it even does this at WOT. I'm waiting for it to do something, but it just keeps winding out, then all a sudden it locks up and shifts into 4th at the same time. When I say it does it all at once, I'm not exaggerating.
I've called Jody about this twice, and either he doesn't understand, or it's supposed to be like that, or I'm not explaining it correctly to him. Because he really hasn't wanted to discuss it with me in detail or offer to make any corrections or changes; which I'm kind of surprised about. I don't know, maybe he'll be at RR east and I can convince him to go for a ride with me. I don't want live tuning, I just want the trans to shift correctly.

So anyone else? Or am I the abnomily.

I am lousy at transmission issues. Mine may be doing that but I am to ignorant to pick up on it. I would be glad to let you drive mine at RRE as a comparison Keith.

Keith, here is my guess. I may be way off and I am sure someone with way more knowledge than me will be here to chime in but here goes. I noticed that in your mod list there is no mention of an OBA. I wonder if at the top of 3rd gear you are defueling and the change in acceleration from defueling is causing the trans to think longer about that upshift. Like everytime it has the rate of acceleration figured out it changes because the fuel flow is dropping because of overboost. Finally the trans decides to "f" it and go for it.

Like I said, just a theory.

That is a neat theory, but I do have a OBA; just haven't put it in the sig. Oh wait, there it is.

I can definitely feel them all separately with my 80E tune.

How old is your chip? I have read there have been numerous revisions of his tunes, but I'd like to know just how many, and what the differences are between each.

I definitely get T/C lock before the shift to OD on mine as well.

I have the same issue, I dont like how it drops the rpms so much all at one time. If I am still accelerating it makes the EGTs climb and makes the truck smoke. It is espcially annoying at lower speeds like 35ish MPH its shifting in and out constantly.

I was wandering the same thing also. Mine does the same. But once it does shift I can step on it and realy accellerate. I am also ignorant to trans operations. Thought it was normal with tuner. Waiting for more info. Maybe Jody or Dianne will chime in.

Kieth, mine may be doing what you are talking about so we'll go for a ride at RRE. I would like to have mine shift a little differently also. I rode in Rick Miller's truck a little while back and shifts are awesome, but he did get his live tuned. One day I'll do the same.

Seeing as there is at least one other person in the thread experiencing the same thing, that would be cool if one of them did stop by.

I wonder why there's so much disparity between trucks.

Mine does the same thing, and it drives me crazy too. I also tried to explain to Jody over the phone, but he didn't think there was much he could do. It was sort of "that's just the way it is". I tend to drive around with the overdrive off when I'm around town, then it never shifts into 4th, and just locks the TQ in 3rd. Either that, or I drive in my 40T. 80E has become a highway cruise tune for me...
