quick background- I'm building a '59 f250 longbed but using dually f350 running gear.
After looking it over the only difference up front seems to be the big 6lug spindles. I figured the easiest way to deal with the front end was to simple swap the big 6lug spindles in place of the 8lug ones that came on the 250. Problem is I can't get the bolts off, I first tried removing the 4 on the back(1st picture, this would remove the spindle and drums as 1 unit) when I try to loosen the nuts the whole bolt just spins too. I then tried removing the bolts on the outside(second pic) but got the same result(nut and bolt spin as one).
Does anyone have a diagram on how these come apart? Either something's broken or I'm missing something.
Colin, if that is the front hub and drum in the picture, try removing the dust cap in the center, pull the cotter pin in the bearing retainer nut, remove the nut, washer and outer wheel bearing. The drum should slide off then so you can get to the bolts and nuts. You may have to back off on the adjustment of the brake shoes to loosen them enough to get the drum off.
OK well how do I remove the actual spindles? The spindles on the 350 are larger than on the 250 so I need to swap those over too, not just the drums/wheel mount.
well you have to remove king pin assy. you may want to research and find out if they use same pin size. have you ever put in king pins. my want to have someone with experience help.
