90 Instrument Cluster Swap

90 Instrument Cluster Swap
Hello,
I had asked quite a while ago about doing a swap from a non-tach setup to a tach-setup and had pretty much all of my questiosn answered, except for one big one:
I know the shift indicator will probably be the biggest pain of the whole job, but what if I get one from a manual truck or one with a different auto than I have (AOD)? Will I be able to swap the plates/mechanism ... or will I be stuck?
Also, any reason why one from a Bronco wouldn't work with my F150 (I assume I'd just check to make sure bulbs for stuff liekt eh 4x4 and everything are there)?
Also, any other info or tips/tricks that I might find useful? I already know I have to watch for the rear of the cluster I get, and possible have to swap out the sending unit for the oil pressure -- from what I gather everything else is a bolt-in deal.
Thanks!

The swap is real easy. I did mine in about 10 minutes.
Yes, the shift indicator is only a little plate that is screwed to the speedometer, you can swap them if it is not the correct one. It is probably easiest to keep the one that you have in the truck, it is hooked to the shifter with a little loop, I am not sure how hard it is to unhook that and then re-attach that little loop to the indicator.
The Bronco cluster should definitely work as long as the clusters are from the same year or very close. The lights should all line up, but I would check to make sure they all work before bolting everything back together.

Thanks! I anticipate slightly more time as I have the older style setup with the mechanical speedo and I think your pieces may just snap out (while mine unscrew), but I think that was the worst of my fears. I've wanted the tach and trip-o-meter for a while, maybe I'll dive in and do it now.
(I have a light otu behind part of the speedo that's been bugging me too, so I'll have a fully lit cluster too!)

Hello guys can you help me where to find the location where you put shift indicator clip somewhere at bottom of the steering column? I am in a process of restoring a 1989 F150 Bricknose with a bad shift indicator. I got a new instrument cluster and I need to learn where to hook up the cable. Thank you guys. Pictures will be nice.
