There is a whining sound that if the clutch pedal is held in changes pitch and goes almost to a grinding sound. No noticeable slippage. No sound when it's not engaged.
"sounds" right to me.....although it's probably not a real issue until it sounds like a flock of sparrows... I had a jeep that had a new TOB, clutch, ect.. and it still made noise. Just don't wait until it fuses onto your input shaft
Does the noise start as soon as you step on the pedal or only after it is depressed a certain distance? I have had a brand new throwout bearing on my top loader make a nasty noise if the pedal is adjusted too tight (not enough free play). It will push the throwout bearing so far that the bearing or fork will actually touch the pressure plate. The clutch will act normally (quiet) until the pedal is depressed too far. Simple check or fix but really only applicable if the noise started after adjustments were made.
I haven't killed a throwout bearing that I recall, so I imagine the sound would depend on how dead it is. That said, whenever any part of any clutch I have goes south I replace everything (disc, pressure plate, pilot and throwout). I made the mistake of only replacing the pilot and resurfacing the flywheel once and was back pulling the motor to replace the disc within a few months. I really hate having to redo work because I only went half way. I guess that's why they sell clutch kits. Good luck with the repair!
