I was wondering, Im taking a trip about a 2 hr ride next week with my travel trailer.
My clutch on my ac compressor is shot and is making a rattling noise once in a while. Looking at the pulley it isnt running off on an angle or anything, no jumping around at all either. The belt is running straight and true around the pulley.
Is there a chance that the pulley could lock up on it and burn the belt off?
I did just drive it back a little over and hour last weekend, from camping and it ran fine and the pulley never got any worse at the rattling sound.
The clutch just wont lock up when I turn on the A/C at all, it tries, and then blows the fuse under the dash.
The reason I ask is, I have the parts on order from partsguyed.com but they wont be here until the day before I leave, and I dont want to tear into it just before I leave and repair it. Id rather repair it and drive it around town for a day or two to see if everything is fine.
Start by removing the bad clutch plate but don't loose the bolt and any shims.
Remove the serpentine belt and check the condition of the pulley bearings. if they are bad, the pulley has the potential the freeze should the bearings decide to fail catastrophically. Mine did and my truck got a ride home on the back of a AAA flatbed. Locked the engine up so it wouldn't crank.
