I got this tranny from a buddy who bought it thinking it was for a Mach I Mustang, I had it in my 72 hornet. I'm planning on putting it in my 66 f100 240.
It is an overdrive 4 spd, other than that .... I know nothing except what I can read off the tag.
RUGCD F-130

Some of the printing is mashed pretty good, probably from me putting it in the hornet by myself without a jack.
Thanks guys!
The top loader transmission you have is not a true top loader. The RUGCD is a 78, 79 three speed with a 4th gear overdrive. These are not performance transmissions and were used in light duty pick ups and intermediate sized passenger cars and some Econoline vans. About the only thing they are good for is if you are going for better gas mileage, other wise they are considered junk by most people. Sorry I have to be the bearer of bad news buy thats the skinny on it. It certainly was not from a Mustang but should work very well behind you 6 in your F 100. Click on the link below and it will tell you all about it.Toploader Imposters
Thanks! I knew it wasn't a true toploader but wondered what it might have come out of. I did forget that it was a light duty tranny, but it will be perfect for my 66.
thanks for the quick reply!

This is a "weak sister" of a trans originally designed for Fairmonts/Zephyrs/Granada's. One speed shift, you can kiss the little darlin' good bye.
Shaggie, where were these #'s located? I'm having a simliar issue with my trans, there are #'s on the back of the bellhousing. one set cast on the side of the trans and an NP (new process) on the top. any info would be appreciatted
mine was on a steel tag rivited to the passenger side on the main body of the tranny just behind where the bellhousing bolts to it. The tranny looks ALOT like the true toploader 4spd, but I dont think any of them came with OD.
Ms_Michelle gave a pretty good site to look at, Toploader Imposters
My truck stock came with a GRANNY LOW 4spd, (2wd) top speed was about 52mph (just guessing, no tach)
Good luck!

On a New Process 435 4 speed, the trans ID tag is bolted on the right (passenger) side of the case. Do not be surprised if it's missing.
People removed these ID tags when they worked on the trans, forgot to re-install them. Ditto for rear axle tags.
New Process 435: Reverse is back towards the seat. Warranty Plate trans code: N (1965) / A (1966 and later).
Thanks for the reply. I dont have a tag on mine but through some searching on here i found out that i do have an NP 435, now i just gotta talk to someone about why it got stuck in 4th and if how i fixed it is going to work. Thanx
Number Dummy to the rescue again! (I wonder what color his cape is) I think his house is built out of old Ford service manuals. Thanks for your help Number Dummy!
After Clutch, pilot, and throw out berring, I'll have about $350 into the truck. That includes the price of the truck, seats, center counsole, utillity box, utillity topper, shocks, 78 F150 front end, rear end, springs (with hangers), brakes, head lights, and more.
One thing I did, I wanted to tell ya guys about was the extearnal shift linkage joints on my hurst (for the toploader). I didn't like them, the nylon thingies were mashed. I made new (used) linkage useing snowmobile tierods. SWEET! Tightened it right up! and it became very ajustable.
I basicly wanted to thank you all for the knoledge! It helped alot!
