Ok trans was rebuilt which can be seen in a previous post. It has been a few weeks and i went to repo a 5th wheel camper about 20 minutes away. The trans was getting up to 210. WTF? It used to take 30 minutes to see the trans temp guage to start to move from 0, now it moves to 150 within 5 minutes. But this was was not the first time towing anything since i use it to tow my landscape tailer.
Anyone see any problems with this? Its under waranty and i took it to the rebuilder cause the fluid was already starting to smell a little burnt, but since he doesnt want to do it again he said no..... it doesnt smell burnt at all.
You bet, 210 isn't blow up yet but it isn't right. You have a pluged cooler, line, bad pump or he just didn't do his job. Is it a big shop. Our both lines to the cooler hot. Change the fuild if burnt and filter asap. Make sure the correct fuild is installed then if the problem dosen't change go back and demand your rights. You should of picked a good trans shop on here or just gone to ford, at least you would have 3 years or 100,000 mile warranty.
Let is know how it goes, or what you find, there is someone else on here that mit know more, but the cooler line to the radiator and then to the cooler should tell if you have the flow thur the cooler. I put on a 6.0 cooler and also ran it thur the radiator as well for warm up on cold days.
Sorry to hear this. In fact, this is the reason I went to BTS to get my trans built. We see this way too often on here. I hope you get the shop to make it good. Those temps are very high.
Did he put an inline filter in the lines after the rebuild? It's always a good idea to stick something like a magnafine on the return line between the cooler and tranny to catch any old pieces that may be floating around in the lines or cooler.
If they did put an inline filter in, start by changing it out and cutting the old one open to see what's in there. Of course if you have a warranty, take it back to them and let them figure it out.
Ok noinline filters. The tranny lines to cooler , one is cold the other is warm. Trans has a lot of work done to it with many upgrades. Also a piggyback cooler was put in. I already let the guy know if I keep having problems and I loose customers ill bring my 86 7.3 dually and drive it into the shop and noyt use any doors
Did he change the bypass line on the right side of the trans? It could have gotten a piece of debris under the check ball and it bypassing some of the fluid. Scroll down to the bottom of this link to read how to test the bypass and ATF coolers: http://www.dieselsite.com/index.asp?...ROD&ProdID=172
WELL TRANS SHOP just replaced the bypass valve i got from ford for 43 bucks. Trans still is getting to 150 in short time, but havent towed yet or driven long enough to see if it will get higher. He did say the valve was shot when testing it and also checked the flow to the cooler which he said was good with no restrictions). So hopefully when i take out the trailer tommorow all will be good.
