Going with a smaller rim.

Ok just a quick question, to be sure before i order some rims. I have an 06 f-150 slt 4wd, and it came with factory 18" rims. Im looking at ordering 17" rims, but want to make sure they will work. Im not to up on the newer trucks, just the older ones. I dont think there would be a problem, just want to make sure.

Don't forget that unless you put on a larger tire (same overall circumference) your speedometer and odometer will be off.

im not sure if you did, but you may want to make sure that when ford put 18" rims on they didnt change the rotor size with it, because that might pose a problem.both 17" and 18" could have the same rotors though

I believe the rotor size is the same for all the 150's so I don't think there would be a problem.

any F-150 or Expedition rim from 2004-2011 will fit your truck. (except the Heavy Duty which has 7 lugs)

The brakes/rotors are the same on each model as well.

Ford put the following rims onto these vehicles

17x8 - base model rims
18x8 - upgrade rims
20x8.5 - Premium rims
20x9 - Roush rims
22x9 - Harley Davidson & 2008 Limited models
23x9 & 23x10 - Saleen staggered rims

you need to pick a tire size that is roughly 32" tall as well. since you are downgrading to a 17" rim, a 265/70/17 (32" tall) would be an ideal size IMO

Well actually im putting on a leveling kit, and installing 33" tires. I would rather have the 17" wheels for them, i like more tire less rim look.

@ Ryan. the Saleens were selling for $600-700 a set not very long ago

@88FordF150. 33" would look great with a leveling kit. Your speedo will be slightly off though, but not that bad

You might want to check out e-bay for 17" wheels. Many people upgrade to a larger size so there are usually lots of take-offs available. When I wanted to buy a set of 17" wheels for winter tires to match the ones that came on my STX I was able to find a set of 4 for under $200 including shipping. It took a while to find a deal like that but they are out there.

Ryan, that sounds like a good price on those Saleen rims you like so much, but hang on when you see the price of tires for them. LOL

You could also get a programmer to correct the speedo...
