I was wondering if anyone has checked their front fuel tank pick-up filter. I would like to get a look at mine, does the large nut just screw off, will I need to replace the gasket ?
Have not done it on the diesel. Did do it on my 95 7.5L though. Try to clean the area up really good then hit it with a screwdriver and hammer, to loosen it, then unscrew it. Looked like my gasket was fine but since I put a new fuel sender unit in and it came with a new one I just replaced it.
What Jim said. I had mine plug off once when I first had the truck. I found it easier to lift the box, 'cause I wanted to check both tanks at the time, rather than dropping the tanks. There's also a little bypass on the pickup line in case the suction screen gets plugged. I found that plugged too. Ugly, nasty tank, that was. Soon followed by fuel pump replacement.
