ok fellows changed out tach sesor still have same problem tach comes and goes not good good on my e4od. traced wires from sensor to left hand side feneder were it plugs in to set that go across front of truck any ideas could not see any thing wrong there. where can i find a diagram for this or does some one have an idea.

Try doing a connector check on all the ones on the rear of the cluster...... just wiggle them to tighten them up.

checked and re check all connection stiil comes and goes is driving me crazy

did you get a new tach, or a jyard one? You almost have to get them new to be sure their good.

No i did not change tack it self just sensor.

ok so i found a guy on the net that says that the sensor should ohm out at 2000-3000 ohms with the sensor out of the truck can anyone back this up

sorry i ment to say tach sensor not tach. Their is a way to test the sensor, but Im not sure what it is. Im sure theirs a thread on here about it somewhere.

Bumping this thread. I am suffering from something very similar. Mine is dead until it warms up little and then seems to be good for the rest of the day.

A schematic would be very helpful. I've replaced the tach sensor twice, by-passed the 3-prong grey connector that sits near the alternator relay and pulled the dash cluster and cleaned the connectors. I'll try the connection at the transmission next and then I guess I'll have to try a new/used tach then a replacement cluster.

Maybe easier to do a ZF5 conversion at least then the tach will be downgraded from mandatory to just handy. Friggin electronics anyway.
