Gas smell in cab

The truck has had a terrible gas smell in the cab since I bought it. the Filler pipe and hose look in good shape, like they were replaced, but it is still emitting a terrible stink. Are there any tips to curing this? I do know that my gas cap seal is toast and so is the rubber grommet that holds the filler pipe in place against the body is too. I am going to take it apart this weekend so any advise is appreciated.

truck is a 64 f100.

I would give a VERY close inspection to the filler pipe hose connection - loosen the clamps and give the hose a spin around so you can see the back side for any cracks or such.
2ndly, I'd also inspect the small line leading out of the tank and down through the floor board. If the floorboard rubber grommet is gone, the line may have developed/rubbed a hole in the line there.
Lastly, check for anything else that may have been rubbing on the tank (tire iron or jack?) for an extended period of time could also wear a hole in the side of the tank.

Good Luck & let us know what you determine!

And get the correct gas hose to replace it. Radiator hose is not gas hose.

When I brought my truck home I had the same issue, someone had replaced the fuel hose in the cab, I found the hose clamps were just loose, I tightened them and it cured the problem. Good luck.

Ha ha ha My truck smells like that, too - but I like it!

Seriously, I know what you are talking about, and I suppose I should follow the same tshooting steps you are. I gave my friend a ride in her a few days ago and he said, "You know, my Dad had a 67 when I was a kid, and it smelled exactly like this."

I figured it was kind of a stock smell ... :-)

F150 tank

I put a rear tank from a mid 90's F150 under mine. I had to remove the cross member that one time held the spare tire, but that is no big deal as there are plenty of cross members under there
