Possible factory flub?
Is it possible that in 59 the Kansas plant messed up the VINs on the 4x4 trucks? there is currently a 59 F250 4x4 and a 59 F100 4x4 on Ebay that claim to be factory. The problem is that the VIN on the F250 starts with F25 instead of F28 or F29 like it should if it's 4 wheel drive. Likewise the VIN on the F100 starts with F10 rather than F18 or F19 like it should be if it's 4 wheel drive... I don't know. Are both trucks ridding on non-stock frames or did the factory screw up the VINs or what? They did both come from the Kansas City plant though.. I'm not accusing anyone of lying or anything and I did send a email to both sellers for clarification, I'm just confused, especially since the owner of the F250 says it has been in his family since new..

If your getting you info from a parts book, the vin information regarding 1959-60 4x4s is incorrect. They all(that I have seen) started with F10 or F25 The specific series codes for 4 wheel drives started in 1961.
The proof is in the pudding: LOVEfords - 1957-1960 Ford F-100 Registry Data That was vin registry for all 1957-60 ford trucks. Not a single F18, F19, F28, F29, yet there are a half dozen or so 4 wheel drives.

Its a factory flub, just a factory parts book flub. John's got their info from the 1957-63(or72) parts catalog and that is where the misprint is found. I would of never caught it myself until one of the earlier posts showed up on here.
In case you ever run across one and need to know, there are certain 4x4 model codes, but the easiest way to identify one is to look for the front axle code on the vin plate. A two wheel drive would only have the rear code stamped. You plan to turn yours into a 4 wheel drive?
