when you start the truck, the computer checks to see that you have a complete circuit to all the speed pickups. The light will come on if it sees no complete circuit in one pickup. If the light stays out, then you put the truck in gear and start moving, at 5-10 MPH a second check is made to see if you are getting a moving signal. If the light comes on, one sensor is not working or reading the counts....... it is alos possible the problem is in the ABS module or computer, but less likely.

Is it making any noises in the grinding/howling noises in the front end, sometimes when a wheel bearing is going out the light will come on if there is a lot of play in it. Happened on my truck when both front bearings went out, also disconnect the plug for the abs going to the wheel bearing and see if any water got into it, use to run into that a lot when i worked at a shop, it only takes a little bit of water to short out the circuit.
Other than that an abs code reader is going to be the fastest route to the cause
