I have a 72 f-250 4x4, the other day the roof decided to separate from the rest of the cab. i had known this day would come, but just hoped for more time. So after reading what i could find about swapping the body of a 73-79 f-series on to the 67-72 frame, seems very do able. So my question is about the gas tank. Could i reuse my stock in cab tank? Or should i think about getting some kind of fuel cell?
I'm still gonna look for a proper 1972 cab, if i could find one
The in-cab gas tank on your 72 should fit in a 73-79 but I would measure it to be 100% sure. If you buy a replacement cab it might already have a gas tank in the cab so that could save you the trouble of worrying about it. Just a thought. I personally would but a 67-72 cab then you know everything is going to work out just fine.
i would perfer to find the proper cab also. But so far, my search has not gone well. that got me to thinking about using one from a slightly newer model as a replacement for now, until a proper one could be found.
DOTZ9002A = Same in-cab fuel tank 1970/72 F100/750 (1970/72 F100, 1971/72 F250's not sold new in CA). The tank used 1961/69 will also fit, but it's only 18 gallons.
1973/77 F100/350 in cab tank is different...and there are two of these.
If sold new in CA, 1970 F100's, 1971/72 F100/250's, 1973/77 F100/250's: These trucks have the Evaporative Emission System...which has a coffee can sized hole in the tank for the fuel vapor valve.
1968/72 F100/350 cabs are essentially the same. 1967 F100/350 is one year only, as are the doors.
