in cab gas tanks
Will a tank from the previous generation work in our years? I can find several in cab tanks from 72 back but can't find a one from 73 up. I'm building a 78 F-250 and love the in cab tank on my 76 F-150. So I would like to put one in the 78. Will this tank work? And other then cutting the hole in the cab for the filler what other modifactions will I have to make to put this tank in?
Thanks
Buck
It would be like taking the safety equipment for the tank off of a let's say 1980 Ford Pinto, that kept the gas tanks from rupturing, and installing it like it was on a 1974 Pinto. A definate no-no, and makes you liable for anybody who got hurt, etc.
According to Federal Regulations, it is illegal to tamper with or modify any safety device, make them non functional, or make any repairs of said equipment that does not conform to the FMVSS of the date of manufacture of the vehicle.
This even includes the Fasten Safety belt buzzer and light, if equipped, unfortunatly.
Some states require regular inspection of devices and safety equipment, to see that the FMVSS of the vehicle is kept up to what it was on the date of manufacture.
So I would say, it was not a good idea to do.
