The manual I have recommends 165ft/lbs for the lug nuts. My torque wrench only goes to 150. I know it is important to have them equal, but how bad is it if is not 165?
Are you sure your torque wrench doesn't go to 160lbs? A lot of the wrenches show 150 as the last number, but your "1, 2, 3, 4" spin dial will add ten more pounds, allowing the effective torque on the wrench to reach 160 foot lbs.
As for your question, if you use the two-step torque method (I go to approx 80ft lbs first, then 160), when your wrench clicks at 150, don't stop. Just go a nudge past the click and you'll be ok. I rather nudge it past 150 rather than leave it at 150. But that's my personal preference. I'm sure there are others who run at 150 and are comfortable with it.
This is assuming your "1, 2, 3, 4," spin dial on your torque wrench either doesn't work, or your last number is 140 foot lbs (which would be weird...never seen a wrench like that before).
Yes I can go past 150. I tried that - all the way as far as it would go - and it started making funny noises. I was having a bad weekend so I decided to stop at 150.
I guess I can go up to 160. You have given me the confidence to try again.
I did 50lbs, 75lbs, 100lbs, 125lbs, and then 150. My kids love the torque wrench. It was a game for them. But even my 14 year old boy can not do 150.
I believe that the manual says 155 to 165. 165 loaded.
As long as they are evenly torqued and you are not loaded to the maximum I would suspect that your wrench will do the job. For now.
I have three torque wrenches. One that goes to over 200. With our trucks I believe it is a good investment.
