Strange Torqshift Issue
I think at this point it could only be good.
The difference is that I followed the instructions all in one shot. I will report back if the problem is experienced again.
Does anyone happen to know if the front wheel ABS sensors have anything to do with transmission shifting or is that only the VSS? I notice the drivers side ABS sensor wire runs right next to the e-brake cable that they had to muck with to replace the pedal. I am curious if a frayed wire on that sensor could cause any of these synptoms?
Would anyone suggest just replacing the VSS at this point? My first one lasted 18,000 miles and I have double that now.
I don't like ***** nilly replacing sensors, but it costs be $120 every time I bring the truck into the dealership and they have provided absolutely no assistance except lightening my wallet. If I can replace a couple of sensors that are easy to do for that price then it makes sense.
Thanks.

Of course the VSS does. Suspect that if the speedometer is showing any signs of erratic operation.
Right before it happend this time I could swear the tachometer was reading about 500RPM, which seemed really low compared to normal (This is a V10), but I may be seeing things!
They are keeping it over the weekend and the tech is going to drive it around with their laptop attached.
They just don't seem to have any idea where to look.
Unfortunately they do not have a "flight recorder" they can wire up for me so I can drive through the mountains and log the data for them...well, I guess they just don't want to let me borrow it.

Some significant updates. It took them 4 days to get the truck wired up with the "flight recorder" as they called it. They gave it back to me to try to reproduce the problem. I took it out on a 100Mile ride and the problem happened like you wouldn't believe.
This time, I was on the highway doing about 60MPH and in OD. I came off the gas to let it coast down the hill due to a speed limit change. The truck started slowing. At about 50MPH or so it downshifted. Then at about 45MPH it downshifted again. This was the hardest shift I have ever had in my life. There was a loud bang and the rear wheels actually appeared to lock up and the truck's rear end started to come around on me! It literally left a skid mark about 10 feet on the road.
Obviously I triggered the flight recorder and took it in the next day (Which was yesterday).
I spoke with them today and they believe they have found the issue. A wire harness running from the passenger side of the truck to the transmission was partially burnt and they believe causing some shorts. They said they will replace the harness and route it better so this won't happen again. I did purchase the Ford extended warranty and they state that this is covered. I do not have more details than this as they have not provided me any yet, but I do want to pose the following questions for you experts:
1) Has anyone heard of this happening before?
2) Should I demand that they inspect the transmission for damage due to the above bad shift I experienced (and all the others)? I only have 7 months left on this warranty and do not want a major transmission problem down the road to happen that was caused by any wear or damage from these shifts...OR...is the torqshift such a strong transmission that an inspection is not necessary?
3) They are being an bit cagey and not providing answers to my "how did this happen question?". Due to a recent service issue with one of my vehicles there that showed a lack of quality in their service department, I am naturally suspicious. Is there anything anyone can think of that their tech could have done to cause this while performing my 4 wheel brake job and replacing the emergency brake pedal & cable?
Thanks!
