I just bought a 79 F-150 for parts, the engine supposable runs but needs a starter I think it's a 351M but I want to make sure before I buy a starter the casting # is D3TE A36 I think the 2nd
# behind the D is a 3 but I'm not sure.
Thanks for the help
Sorry I read it wrong the cast # above the starter is D7TE A3B
Located under that is another # 9J26 and the intake # is
D7TE SA, the book I have list's it as a 390 or 360 anyone know for sure
Thanks for the help I now know it’s not a 390ci because I went to Auto Zone and looked at a 390 and 400 valve cover gasket the 400 would fit. The casting #'s are confusing me because my book shows 390 #'s. I know Ford didn't put a 360 or 390 in that year but they didn’t put a 1 ton rear end in any F-150 either but that’s what’s under it, you would just have to know the people I got it from.
Yes it has 8 valve cover bolts does that mean it is defiantly a 351M or 400 or do other engines also have 8 valve cover bolts.
The reason it needs a starter is it keeps eating them. The fly wheel is cutting into the aluminum frame of the starter I’ll have time tomorrow to see if its a broken/bent fly wheel or a bell housing problem. The flywheel teeth look good but the engine side of it is very scarred for contact with about 3 old chewed up starters that are in the back of the truck.
Thanks again.
