I was going to swap out the c4 tranny in my 73 F100 swb with the transmission out of a 75 F100 lwb parts truck I just bought. The guy told me it had a c4, so I didnt question him I drove it and it shifted great.
Well I got under the truck today for the first time and I guess it is a C5. The dipstick tube is screwed into the case instead of the oil pan. Modulator valve is on driverside instead of passenger and oil cooler lines are ran different.
Will this be a direct swap or will I have to change things to make the c5 fit in the c4's place? I don't really even want the c5 in my truck, but the c4 in it now is fixin to give out. Thanks for any help.
The transmission in the 75 truck has a 14 bolt oil pan and the modulator valve is on the driverside.
So I guess I bought a truck I don't need and now I still have a truck that needs a transmission.
Im thinking now that it might be an AOD? But I don't see how because I drove the truck home and it shifted great but the tv rod isnt hooked up just the vac modulator. I didnt take notice how many times it shifted.
Well, if it bolted up and shifted fine with the other 302, I dont know why, with a few modifications to the the cooler lines that it wouldnt do the same to yours. You should be able to tell if its an OD when you drive it, count how many times it shifts.
Still wondering if this FMX is gonna be a direct swap in the place of a C4? I don't wanna have some ugly surprise when I start the swap.
FMX is still in donor truck. Thanks.
