We're in the process of converting a 1976 f100 that had a 360 backed up by a c6 transmission. In place of the 360 we're putting a 300 six backed up by a c4 transmission. I have some questions and would appreciate some input. We're looking for the linkage to hook up the column shifter to the transmission. If we have to we might end up putting the shifter on the floor but would rather keep the shifter on the column. The original front driveshaft from the c6 is about 6" short to fit the c4. Not exactly sure but clost to 6" short. The yoke on the driveshaft will just touch the shaft coming out of the transmission. Do they make an extended yoke that will fit the driveshaft? The rear driveshaft is fine. I understand that some c6's have a removeable bellhousing like the c4 we're going to use. Any chance of finding a c6 with a removeable bellhousing that will fit where the c4 is right now? I have the original c6 sitting in the shop that came out of the truck if anybody is interested in swapping. Is the c6 with the removable bellhousing the same length as the c6 with the one piece bellhousing/transmission?
All C6's are integral bellhousing, none were removable.
According to the parts catalog you can use the same shift rod, but the C4 has to have a truck shift arm, not a passenger car.
Rod, trans. manual shift

Fits: 73-77 F100-350 2WD, 6&8 cyl engine w/ FMX, C4, C6 trans
73-77 F250 4WD w/ C6
18 21/32" long X 7/16" diameter.
The transmission that was originally in the truck behind the 360 was a C6. The C4 transmission behind the 300 six originally came with the 300. Does anybody have a diagram of the linkage setup for the C4 in a pickup truck. The C4 has a removeable bellhousing.
Here are two illustrations from the Ford parts catalog, the first shows the throttle and kickdown linkage for the 6 cyl. The second shows the shift linkage.
Now that we have found out what kind of transmission we have, what kind of fluid does it take and how much or is it the same as far as type and amount as the C4?
