i bought a f150 4x4 about 5 yrs ago and it came with a 302 , the truck was originally a 6 cylinder truck. i'm swapping it back to a 4.9 and the one i have has the tfi ignition on the distributor. my wiring harness is in pretty bad shape, i need a diagram for the tfi. i'm going to use a points distributor til i get a diagram. i wanted one wire dist. but i'm not going to spend $400.00 ill just have to have less power with the points. i only use the truck to pull my boat .any help ould be appreciated

Will you have to change the computer if you stay with the TFI?? Is a 302 the same as a 4.9 computer? Carb or EFI engine? what year truck? I would just use a duraspark dist and a ignition module of your choice. Cheapest would be a GM 4 pin module.
the 4.9 came out of a 86 and i'm putting it in a 85 and its is a carb. the dirt cheap ignition looks really good. update, i was tring to install the 4.9 but needs motor mounts they wont be in till monday

cheapest dist is on ebay for $55,with cap and rotor and free shipping, that is where I got mine... but it only lasted 2000 miles before the roll pin on the gear sheared, the gear is still in the bottom of my oil pan.
i see you have two of the gm 4 pin modules ,i'm guessing there is an extra one just in case one fails. and if it is how often do they go out. i have a duraspark dist. in a spare engine so thats definitely what i'm going to do. and the heat sinks you have did you buy them somewhere or did you make them . i have some 1/4 inch aluminum if i double it should be enough. thank for the info

The heat sink is from a computer CPU, my local computer repair shop sells used ones for $1. I cut the heat sink in half (was square) and the 4 pin modules are junk yard used stuff, so it was just as easy to make an extra spare while I was at it. If the 4 pin module is heat sinked well it wont have any failure issues, heat is the only issue. I have beening running this setup for over 2 years without a failure. But I DO like having spare parts on hand, ready to go. Use heat sink compound under the 4 pin module, the auto parts store will sell it.
NAPA OnLine sells the 4-pin HEI ignition module, ECHTP45, for ~$39 + shipping. These are also widely available as Wells DR100, Niehoff DR400, Standard part numberLX-301 (~$28); or AC DELCO D1906 (~$33), and were used on many non-computer GM V-8s, V-6s and I-6s from 1975 to the mid 1980s. <O</O
i hooked up the gm 4 pin module and it fired up with ether but i cant get it to run off of the carb, gas is getting to the carb but not out of the jets ( from what i can see) i think there is a soliniod under the carb keeping the fuel from getting to the jets thanks jimsrebel for the help it was easy and cheap
