first off, i need to give a shout out to B.G.. for oem parts, you can't go wrong. my truck drive like NEW with 221,000 miles on it. Do the radius arm bushings. what a difference!!
Now the following things DO NOT WORK. Speedo. Odo. 4x4 push button.(it is lit up like a x-mas tree) The following things are on. check engine light, and the tranny eod light is blinking. the truck drives fine with the exception of the tranny shifting way too hard. ( i guess it is in limp mode)
Any ideas? i just battled trying to get the tranny to come out of park with the ignition key turning. took the whole dash out for that. it fixed itself. however, i did something else.
here is the fun part.
ALL THE FUSES ARE NOT BLOWN.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaHHHHHHH (insert scary music here...)
hey thanks for the reply. it isn't that. i don't really wail on my steering wheel. i feel it is more electrical. i hooked up a bypass starter switch to get the truck running. So, the truck runs, drives, and everything works except the speedo, odo and ruse block #18 has no power. it must be a ground wire somewhere or, the ignition needs to come apart and get cleaned.... stay tuned....
Sounds like the speed signal is getting messed up somewhere, which is a very common problem on these trucks. You need to check the VSS (electrical part on the top front of the rear pumpkin), VSS wiring and PSOM (speedo/odo unit in the cluster). The tranny needs this to pick its shift points and the 4x4 module needs it to make sure you aren't trying to go wheeling at 70mph.
Sometimes it's nothing more than the VSS getting loaded with metal paste and cleaning it gets it reading again. Unbolt it (single 10MM IIRC) and make sure it's clean and the wiring is good.
My best and simplest suggestion for your 4x4 push button/SOTF system is to just get one of these instead and be done with it. Best $59.00 you'll ever spend..........

okay. my check engine light was a 500. speed sensor not working. i replace it, and still no change. i really think there is no voltage on this line. i think the voltage problem effects all the things that do not work. so, i guess the ignition module underside the steering column is done. the mechanism works when the key is turned. i disconnected it and tired to move the white pin on the module all the way to the start position. nothing. there must be a blown fuse in the engine bay area or a fusable link that is shot. any ideas? could i jump a wire over to the fuse that does not have any power? (such a mad scientist move here)
okay! i jumped some power over to the dead # 18. everything came back on. so, what part do i have to replace, the ignition key module or the brake safety switch? ggrrrr..
And so do I, in my '97 crew cab. But our Bronco (and about 3 million others) have the SOTF system, which s great when it works but sucks when it doesn't. So you have 2 choices to choose from to get a manually shifted B/Warner t-case in your truck----find a new or rebuilt one ($200---->$900), find the appropriate linkage, gear shift and floor plate ($70---->$200) and then spend a day and a half in the driveway with 2 of your closest friends and swap t-cases. OR, you can just buy a Shiftster for $60.00, install it within 8 minutes and be on your way. And it's not like you don't have to get out of your vehicle to lock the hubs anyways----right? Cuz no one should go off roading with auto hubs. Right?
So besides the fact that you have to reach under the drivers seat for less than 25 seconds to get into 4WD (which my daughter can do even quicker btw,), what is more economically feasible---one thousand dollars and 2-3 days of your life? Or $60.00 and 10 minutes---all to perform the exact same function?
