Hopefully someone here can offer me some advice. So I noticed the other day that my truck starts violently shaking when I hit around 45-50 MPH. The check engine light starts flashing, and it last for about 15 seconds. Then it stops, and runs fine. Then it'll do it again, engine light and all. I told my buddy about it, and he said he thinks it is a tranny issue. I turned the overdrive off, and tried driving that way. With the overdrive off, it starts shaking at around 65-70, but doesn't do it nearly as much. Any ideas? I drive a 2004 F-150 fx4 5.4l. 118,000ish miles. Just replaced plugs and ignition coils.
You need to have the codes read so you don't start throwing needless money and parts at it. Do this next and then post the codes on FTE and someone will be able to help.
You can take it by a local parts store and try to have them read for free. Keep in mind that some codes are stored on the computer that they will not be able to read. For those, you will have to take it to a reputable maintenance shop or Ford service dept to have them pull the codes.
Its hard to give advice when we do not know where it is originating from, engine or transmission.
