You fellas got me paranoid. So is the Mallory Ignition coil I got gonna be good enough (51k volts, .2 ohms) and the MSD 8.5 mm superconductor wires gonna work? Sorry, newbie here. btw ricky, you're right. them fellas are a helluva resource. thanks
I used the MSD #8227 coil and the Ford Motor Sports 9mm wires myself----but I'm thinking that your stuff is probably even better than my stuff, so yeah, just do it.......
I would say that the 51k coil should be fine. Most guys doing this mod are only going up to 48k. But take it for what it's worth, I'm learning a lot and I'm only on page ten of that FSB thread.
As per the wires, refer to the previous paragraph in this post.
Got a set of autolite 24's to throw in when I get home. Should only be a matter of minutes till I can get out of here. I thought my old plugs were platinum, after referencing autolite's website, the app24 is a double platinum plug.
After all this, I'm a master at changing my plugs. I can do all 8 in a snap with one deep well socket and a 4" extension.

Take some advice form an olde guy, who used to have a 911S---you want to take your time on these.
And please, don't even bother asking me how I came to this conclusion.........
I think i will do the six liter mod tonight i already have the high performance stuff on the motor just gotta gap the plugs and reset the timing to around 13*

Did you get a good cap and rotor as well? And what wires were you gonna use (were yours the pricey MSD's?)...........

Very true and wise words.... I suggest adding a 4" long piece of 1/4 I.D. fuel line to your tool kit. Insert the end of the spark plug into the hose until pretty snug and use it as an extension to get the plugs started. Fixing cross-threaded holes is a huge PITA and expensive too...
I have mine set at 15* My truck runs like poop when I have it set at 10* I also have done this so called "6 liter mod" with msd cap, rotor and taylor wires
Jfc, I would have thought that that's not even possible---any chance your harmonic balancer has taken a little stroll over the years? Cuz I've heard that because there (used to be?) a rubber spacer/dampener thing behind them that over a period of time they have a tendency to move a bit in one direction or another.

Just a thought...........

I start every one by hand. Then use the socket & extension to hand tighten. I go less than 1/4" turn with a ratchet and I'm done. No crossthreading here.
BTW, truck runs better now. Took care of the problems I was having. The coppers are gapped @ .055 and it runs very closely to how it ran before I started messing with the ignition. The truck has always had a week spot at the right RPM if you get on the pedal just shy of enough to make it shift. It seems like this has improved slightly after beginning on this whole endeavor..
This truck had a new cap/rotor/wires on it when I bought it two years ago though.
