yeah, i thought about the $50.00 parts store ones--but this one was a direct bolt in, and since its a ford part it should be fine from now on. . some old timer told me once that good things arent cheap and cheap things arent good. ( figured since he was like a billion years old, he had a hell of a lot more experience than me. ) im all for cutting costs when i can, but this is a work vehicle and i need it to work right the first time, asap. it sucks, but thats my bread and butter right there. hopefully she rolls good for a while now...... but ill be holding my breath waiting for the other shoe to drop ! and yes the ex definately needs to go---but the vette ? dude, c'mon....its a VETTE. would you get rid of this ??? by the way i dont know if you can read the license plate...it says "TRASHY"...because it is, and so am i !!!

Yes, I would, As fast as I could, But I wouldn't have one unless it was given to me, and if one was given to me I would junk it!

Definitely would not spend one red cent on one!

I hate vettes!

Just my personal opinion, to each their own.

That's another thing about vettes I hate, when you junk them they're not worth anythng in weight because they're fiberglass. Seriously I'd get rid of the 80's throwback if you can. Nothin personnal.

Edit: After lookin at it again it would be more appealing caged, tubbed, and a blown bigblock under the hood, but that's just me.

well, with a 454 ( .060 over so actually 468 ) and 2 600 cfm carbs on a c-66-o intake, an isky 292 / 590 / 108 cam, and 10.25 compression the vette cracks 540hp and 590ft/lb, runs 11.87 @ 124mph no nitro street tires thru the mufflers 3.55 gears and a 2400 converter, and weighs 3340lbs...and its my everyday driver. wont be getting rid of it anytime soon, since it makes more power than the 7.3 idi ( even with the banks turbo ! ) AND can be driven everyday without missing a beat ! as for the "80's throwback"...well, what can i say, i used to rock a mullet pretty hard--and my cd changers got mostly hair metal in it ( whitesnake, dokken, quietriot, def leppard,etc...) after all i grew up in the 80's, graduated high school in 1989. but i really want to do a crazy psychodelic 70's style 'candy ribbons' paint job on it...( a la art himsl. ) now THAT might **** some people off--------GOOD.

hey, you guys didnt think that hoodscoop was just there for looks, did you ? i am the total old school street racer ( strictly light to light, tho--non of those stupid banzai freeway runs like kids do now days... ), a 'normal' conversation goes something like " whats it got in it ? uh, i think its a 350....no, it sounds like that cause its got a hole in the muffler and a few fouled out spark plugs. its kind of a dog, to tell the truth. actually, its my moms car.....hey, um...you wanna race ? " yep if that comes at you from a fatguy with an unpainted car, then its probably me...or my fat brother. and boy are you gonna get a big surprise ! every car we have had has eventually wound up with a big block ( preferably immediately, sooner if possible....like the 68 chevelle/427, the 67 camaro/428 pontiac, the 66gto/ 455, the previous 79 vette / 496, the 70 grand prix/455, the 69 buick gs/455,the 88 mustang/460,and the current 78 vette. oh, and the 53 stepside with the 500 cadillac motor--i still have that one too.) and when we had a 1/4 mile strip here, either me or my brother ALWAYS had the fastest car that drove in, the fastest car with mufflers, and the fastest car on street tires. and they are always daily drivers. see, cars are a good family hobby--we got started because my 5 foot tall, 100lb mom had a 67 chevelle with a 427 and a 4 spd...that she swapped in when i was 6 years old. i got to be the 'tool monkey' ! of course i found out later when doing my own that its not a cheap hobby...............

With what Ford (and all the rest) are putting out nowdays, in many cases the aftermarket part is as good or better

some old timer told me once that good things arent cheap and cheap things arent good. ( figured since he was like a billion years old, he had a hell of a lot more experience than me. )
There is some truth in that as well as the addage, "you get what you pay for."

But there's always a a median price point where you start overpaying for the same item or service. It pays to shop around
You don't want to go "low bidder" all the time and you don't want to do the $100.00 hammer either (Unfortunatly, our governments never quite caught on to this concept)

im all for cutting costs when i can, but this is a work vehicle and i need it to work right the first time, asap. it sucks, but thats my bread and butter right there. hopefully she rolls good for a while now...... but ill be holding my breath waiting for the other shoe to drop !
I know what you mean my friend. I'm also self employed and although my equipment isn't as expensive as yours, (firearms, computers, cameras, "other electronics), I need them to work 1st time, everytime!

When they don't it's embarrasing, reputation damaging, inconvenient and sometimes...life threatening
I've felt the same as you at times. I do have a $$$$ amount in my head, and the first sucker, I mean investor, that utters it with cash in hand, will be the proud new owner....until then though, I feel the same way you do about a "normal" job. Although they have thier advantages, (usually share thier advantages with thier disadvantages), it beats the heck out of the 9-5 hum drum and taking orders from snot nosed 20 something "college grads" who have little if any "real life" experience (we've all been in thier shoes too so no slam on 20 somethings), on how to "better" do a job I've been doing extrmely well for 30 years
I hope it continues to work well for you now for a long time

and yes the ex definately needs to go

Comeon man! You're on a a rock, surrounded by water, sharks and cliffs...and she's still here why? (jfwy bro)

In a word NO!
Have you posted your vette on some other sites? (DC, vettemod?) it looks familiar?
I recently sold my vette, and am in the planning stages of a pro-street C3 build. All late model running gear, LSx custom build.....comfort, reliability, and screamin' power... Keep the vette!

At least you took a 2nd look
Nobody "junks" vettes. They run 'em to death first
That "80's throwback", when completed, (possibly even now) may be worth more than your rig
But they're definately not for everybody

yeah i got bit by the hotrod bug when i was really young, it has infected my life so much that i think i got carburetors instead of lungs....and i love em all, you can ( and i have ) make them ALL fly--chevys , fords , chryslers , pontiacs , buicks , even cadillac motors. just pick and choose your parts wisely and any one of them can be really really fast. as for the ex...well, i dont wish her any harm. i just wish she would go away ! unfortunately i cant control anything she or anyone else does--i can only control myself and my reactions. its a free country ( at least as far as i know it SHOULD be...) so i cant make her move away--maybe i will go back to maui instead. i dunno. she is crazy, thats for sure. oh well....NEXT ! i think a pro street c3 would be AWESOME. i want to back half mine but that takes more $$$$ than i want to spend at this point....i think you gotta go 4 link instead of ladders because the bars end up so short.......d*mmit, now im gonna go out and look under the vette to see just how much work this would take ..........dang hotrod bug bitting me again.....
