Too old for synthetics?

2003 7.3 w/ 140K on the clock.

New to me, but is it too old for synthetics in the motor?

I guess I wonder if it could start leaks where there weren't any before.

I am going to have a blackstone done on it (although since I bought it the horse is pretty much out of the barn) when I change the oil soon (this time I'll just use factory spec weight, non synth)

What are you all running, I used to run S9000 in my 5.9 dodge, but it did make it a little stinkier out the pipe.

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks.

There is no such thing as too old for synthetics. Synthetics don't cause leaks, either.

Definitely switch to synthetics! They wont cause any additional oil consumption and your engine will benefit from a higher quality oil. Amsoil makes a great 15w40 which can give you extended drain intervals as well if you keep up on the oil analysis. I know a few guys who are running 15k-20k on an oil change but that includes a filter every 5k, take a sample and top off the oil level. I personally wouldn't go that long even with the analysis but it's hard to argue with them - one has over 340k miles on his 7.3 and another has almost 250k - neither with any engine issues both running Amsoil.

Synthetics will make your motor leak, hair fall off, teeth loose, ED problems, etc, etc.

Nope. Old wives tale. Just put it in and run.

Well I didn't exactly mean that it will "cause" my oil to leak.

I was just wondering if synthetic would find a way out where conventional motor oil wouldn't.

Old wives tale again. Synthetic or regular oil is pretty dumb. If you have a leak, you have a leak. If you use lighter weight oil it can leak. After all, some people use heavier weight oil to "cure" a low oil pressure situation.
